The other night I had a small cup of coffee with a long time friend who is also a successful entrepreneur. He asked me “how do you do it?” One of my responses among what I gave was You Are youR brand!
Unless you happen to be an online cloud service such as Amazon.com, in general people like doing business with people. Whether you’re a solopreneur or you represent a larger company, you in some way represent a brand. Think about the last time you purchased a product such as a fashion product such as Vidal Sassoon, louis vuitton, or Georgio Armani. We buy the brands not just because of the way they make us feel but also because of the successful people behind them. Virgin America and Sir Richard Branson.
And then you have products and services without an exact face such as Coach, General Electric (GE), Honda, Ford, Starbucks. We don’t necessarily put a face to these yet we buy them because of quality, what we get from them, which engenders trust. And its the people on that front line that help determine whether or not we as consumers continue to buy from them again. If you happen to be not the millionaire owner of the company but a loyal employee, you become the face of that product or service as the employee. You represent the brand.
So whether you’re a real estate owner, chef, chiropractor, wine consultant, limo company owner, or even a web designer ro social media expert (*hint* heeehee), you are not just your company, and you are your brand. And people buy, refer to and stick to their brands for reasons.
